  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for spraying

Instructions

  1. Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour to make a roux and gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper; simmer for flavor development.
  4. Remove from heat, mix in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted.
  5. Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese mixture and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Shape cooled mixture into balls, dip in beaten egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
