  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Carefully cut diagonal slits in the bread about an inch apart without cutting through the bottom crust.
  4. Rotate the loaf and create a crosshatch pattern with more diagonal cuts.
  5. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously between each cut.
  6. If using cheese, sprinkle it between the cuts.
  7. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil loosely and bake on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Unwrap the top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving warm.
